1. Summary

DevReference is a technical reference app for software developers. You can browse and consult the content catalog online without creating an account.

We designed DevReference to collect as little information as possible. If you choose to link an account or subscribe to DevReference Pro, we may process additional information to enable those features, sync your data, and manage your access.

We do not sell your personal data or use your information to show personalized advertising.

2. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use DevReference.

2.1. App usage information

We may collect aggregated or pseudonymized technical and usage information to understand how the app performs and to improve the catalog. This may include:

  • Usage events, such as searches performed, screens visited, topics marked as favorites, or download attempts.
  • Information about searches with no results, to identify concepts we could add to the catalog.
  • Basic technical data about your device and the app, such as app version, operating system version, language, general device model, and error logs.
  • Diagnostic, performance, and crash data to detect and fix technical issues.

We do not use this information to build advertising profiles or to sell it to third parties.

2.2. Account information, if you choose to link one

You can use DevReference without creating an account. If you choose to link an account through an available provider, such as Google or Apple where applicable, we may receive basic identity information shared by that service, for example:

  • Account identifier.
  • Display name, if the provider shares it and it is needed for the experience.
  • Email address, if the provider shares it and it is needed to restore or sync your information.

We use this data solely to link your account, sync favorites and collections across devices, and help you restore access when applicable.

2.3. Subscription-related information

If you purchase DevReference Pro, the purchase, billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your full card number or other complete payment data.

We may receive information related to the status of your access, such as:

  • Purchase or subscription identifier.
  • Subscription status, for example active, canceled, expired, in a grace period, or revoked.
  • Expiration or renewal date.
  • Technical information needed to validate and restore a purchase.

We use this information to enable the corresponding Pro features, such as offline downloads, collections, sync, and automatic updates to downloaded content.

2.4. Information you send us when contacting support

If you write to us from the support section or report a bug, we will receive whatever information you choose to include in your message. A report may also include relevant technical context, such as the related article, app version, operating system version, and basic error details, so we can investigate the issue.

We recommend you do not send passwords, financial information, identity documents, or other sensitive information through the support forms.

3. Information we store on your device

DevReference may store data locally on your device so the app functions correctly. This data may include:

  • Your favorites.
  • Your language, text size, and code style preferences.
  • Search indexes and catalog metadata.
  • Topics you have downloaded for offline access.
  • Collections you have created.
  • Technical information needed to recognize your subscription status.

Content downloaded for offline use may be stored encrypted on your device, depending on the implementation and platform capabilities. If you clear the app's data, uninstall DevReference, or use the corresponding option inside Settings, part or all of this local information may be deleted.

4. How we use your information

We use the information described in this policy to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve DevReference.
  • Show the catalog, search results, and requested technical content.
  • Keep your preferences and favorites.
  • Sync favorites and collections across devices when you link an account.
  • Validate, restore, and manage access to DevReference Pro.
  • Enable offline downloads and updates to downloaded content when applicable.
  • Detect, investigate, and fix bugs, security failures, or performance issues.
  • Analyze, in aggregate, which content is useful, which searches return no results, and which parts of the app need improvement.
  • Respond to your messages, support requests, and bug reports.
  • Comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the security of the app and its users.

5. Legal basis for processing

Depending on your location and applicable law, we process your information when necessary to:

  • Provide the features you request when using the app.
  • Fulfill our obligations related to your subscription.
  • Maintain the security, stability, and reasonable improvement of DevReference.
  • Comply with legal obligations.
  • Obtain your consent when required by law, for example for certain device permissions or optional communications.

6. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal data. We may only share information with providers that help us operate DevReference, and only to the extent necessary to provide their services.

These providers may include:

  • Google Play: to process purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and subscription validation.
  • Firebase and Google Cloud services: for content hosting, optional authentication, sync, analytics, diagnostics, notifications, and monitoring, depending on which features are active in the app version.
  • Support or email providers: if we use external tools to receive and respond to support requests.

We may also disclose information when necessary to comply with a legal obligation, respond to a valid request from a competent authority, protect our rights, or investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

7. Analytics and diagnostics

DevReference may use analytics and diagnostics services to understand aggregate app usage and detect errors. These services may collect technical identifiers, usage events, and crash data.

We use analytics to improve the app and the catalog, for example to learn which concepts are consulted most or which searches return no results. We do not use this data for personalized advertising.

The Firebase services currently active in DevReference are: Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Firebase App Check.

8. Notifications

If the app offers notifications and you accept the corresponding permission, we may send you notices related to DevReference features, such as updates to downloaded content, relevant subscription changes, or information you requested.

You can turn off notifications from your device settings. We will not use notifications to send personalized advertising.

9. Data retention

We keep information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a legal obligation requires us to keep it longer.

  • Data stored locally stays on your device until you delete it, uninstall the app, or use an available deletion feature.
  • Support information may be kept for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, resolve the case, and maintain support records.
  • Subscription-related information may be kept for the period necessary to validate purchases, handle refunds, resolve disputes, and comply with applicable accounting or legal obligations.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection to the processing of certain personal information.

You can:

  • Use DevReference without linking an account, when that option is available.
  • Change your preferences from Settings.
  • Turn off notifications from the operating system.
  • Request help deleting or unlinking your account, if you linked one.
  • Request information about the personal data we hold about you, when applicable law allows it.

To exercise these rights, contact us at soporte@devreference.app. We may request reasonable information to verify your identity before addressing a request.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or improper disclosure. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We recommend you keep your device's operating system up to date, protect it with a lock mechanism, and not share access to your Google or Apple accounts with other people.

12. Minors

DevReference is intended for people with the capacity to accept these terms under applicable law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors without the authorization required by law.

If you believe a minor provided us with personal information improperly, contact us at soporte@devreference.app so we can review the case.

13. International transfers

Our technology providers may process information in countries other than yours. When this happens, we will use reasonable measures and appropriate mechanisms under applicable law to protect the information.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices, features, providers, or legal requirements change. If we make relevant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and may notify you inside the app or through other available means when applicable.

We recommend you review this policy periodically.
